Three bottles of World-Class Pinot Noir
Here we present a round-the-world tour of Pinot Noir. Perhaps the world's greatest grape variety, and certainly responsible for the world's rarest and most sought-after wines. The classic Burgundian reds are truly sublime, but the prices are eye-watering. So we've got three of the very best alternatives from round-the-world that deliver up-front, sensuous, Pinot-deliciousness, at sensible price tags. In true Cellar's style, we've got some stone-cold-classics mixing it up with newcomers to the new-world Pinot Scene.
Estate Pinot Noir, Ten Minutes by Tractor, 2018
Outrageously good Pinot Noir Noir from cult-winery Ten Minutes by Tractor. There's sumptuous red fruit on the nose, a savoury note, and lots of complexity developing from time in bottle.
Mornington Peninsula, close to Melbourne is one the best places in the southern hemisphere to produce Pinot Noir and is responsible for some incredible wines, this one included!
Mount Jefferson Pinot Noir, Cristom, 2021
Created in 1992 when Oregon was not even a speck on the wine map, Cristom have helped put Oregon at the forefront of the world of Pinot Noir, and arguably they produce some of the finest available. The Winery is still in the family today and is now run by the founders children.
The Mount Jefferson Cuvee has beautiful Pinot vibes with notes of cherry, wild strawberry, and white pepper. It's silky and lithe, with lovely smooth tannin.
Novum Pinot Noir, Novum, 2020
One of the most beautiful expressions of Pinot Noir we've tasted from outside France. A little shy on the nose at first, but with time in the glass it opens up and really comes alive to reveal a sumptuous wine - soft, silky and smooth.
Rachel & Will Hoare buy the absolute best fruit they can find, focusing not on individual vineyards but parcels within the vineyards. This is from three parcels in Marlborough, one of New Zealand's top regions.
