Four incredible bottles of world-class Riesling.
Here we present four of our favourite wines from the world of Riesling. Riesling, which is arguably a little unfashionable in the minds of the general public, usually holds a special soft spot with wine lovers. You tend to be able to get very good, world-class wines for very little (relatively speaking). Perhaps it is misunderstood, as it comes in varying styles and sweetness levels, or perhaps we are reminded of Blue Nunn? Either way, wine lovers are in for a treat as we get world-class wines that don’t break the bank.
This case includes;
Riesling, Sybille Kuntz £21.00 £18.90
The Mosel is the home of Riesling, and arguably the greatest Riesling wines originate from their steep riverbank vineyards. Our first wine is a super-classy Mosel Riesling from rising star Sybille Kuntz. Lively, refreshing, and bursting with citrus fruit and white flowers. Certified Organic.
Les Jardins, Ostertag, France £24.00  £21.60
One of Alsace’s very best producers, Ostertag is also a sculptor in his spare time and you get a sense of the artfulness in these wines. The wine is dry, but with a touch of glycerol texture and classic notes of citrus, stone fruit and blossom. A proponent of Biodynamics, helping Ostertag craft wines full of energy and personality. Certified Biodynamic.
RS5, Mac Forbes, Australia  £28.00  £25.20
Mac Forbes has a cult following in the wine world, and for good reason. This is extremely fresh and electric rendition of Riesling – super fresh and one to enjoy with fresh seafood.
Riesling Miramar Vineyard, Casa Marin, Chile £24.00 £21.60
Casa Marin is based in San Antonio valley, right next to the Pacific, providing a cool climate to slowly ripen grapes. This Riesling is sourced from a vineyard on limestone and granite soils – the limestone giving elegance and the granite giving structure
For me this is perfect Riesling (from an unlikely location!). It's all about citrussy zestiness on the nose with notes of lime and lemon zest. On the palate there’s mouth-watering acidity, with lots of elegance and a hint of ripe stone fruit just balancing out that freshness.
