Schloss Gobbelsburg has perhaps one of the longest winemaking histories in Austria. Their vineyards were established some 850 years ago and the now winery has served as both a renaissance castle in the 16th century and a monastery in the 17th. Its current winemaking iteration was run by monks until 1995, when Michael decided to lease it from the church on a two-generation rolling contract
