Four bottles of natural wine that we're lovin' right now
The Loire Valley has long been at the forefront of the natural wine movement, spearheaded by the likes Nicolas Joly as far back as the 1970's. It's perhaps surprising that the Loire was a genesis for natural wines given the northern climate, but relatively low-cost vineyards and a real spirit of collaboration, so central to the natural movement, have established the region as an exceptional source of incredible natural wines.
Here we take a tour through the wild-side of the Loire with four of our current favourites, spanning sparkling, Muscadet, Chenin and of course, a dash of Cabernet Franc.
Natürlich, Ben Landron
£22.00 > £19.80
This vintage of all-time favourite, Naturlich, has a lovely pink tinge, perfect for spring - a blend of 90% Folle Blanche and 10% Pinot Noir, It's Sparkling, zesty and easy-going.
Muscadet Le Croix Moriceau, Complemen'terre
£19.00 > £17.10
A natural take on the classic Muscadet. You get the same mineral freshness and salty edge, but with a little more textural interest and a note of Perry. Really lovely stuff.
Chenin Fragile, La Grange Aux Belles
£28.00 > £25.20
Simply wonderful Chenin Blanc; full of ripe green apple notes, lovely texture and big on refreshing mineral vibes.
La Chausée Rouge, La Grange Aux Belles
£19.00 > £17.10
The quintessential summer Red. Fresh red fruit, bright acidity, and rustic notes from spicy Grolleau and earthy Cab Franc. Glou Glou!
