Here we have a rich, spicy expression of the Bairrada region from vineyards planted in the 1920’s. Baga is a rich powerful grape, and here we see that full expression. Think bramble fruit and lots of spice. A wine to sit with alongside a decadent rib of beef, and watch unfurl in the glass. If you can, decant this for an hour or two before drinking, it will help soften the tannins and bring the wine to life.
The estate was founded by Jorge’s grandfather in the late 1920’s – and for the first two generations the wine produced was sold to negociants, who would use the wine in large multi-region blends. Jorge and his brother returned to the estate in 2000, would-be third generation winemakers, with the idea of building new cellars, and bottling the wines of the estate parcel-by-parcel expressing uniquely each terroir and vineyard.
