Four elegant bottles showcasing one of our favourite grape varieties, and favourite regions
Mencia is a red grape variety mainly found in Galicia, northwest Spain. It's one of our favourite grape varieties, and wines from the region feature heavily on our list, in fact, we almost certainly have too many Mencias, but hey, we love them and we hope you will too.
If you like Pinot Noir, you are guaranteed to fall in love with Mencia. The common theme of the wines are freshness, light tannins and opulent red fruit. Perfect spring-time wines.
Mencia Joven, Castro Ventoza
14.00 > 12.60
This bottle comes from Bierzo, further inland and slightly warmer than Ribeira Sacra, where the rest of the wines are grown. Hence, it's a slightly riper and rounder style of Mencia.
Ribeira Sacra, Guimaro
18.00 > 16.20
Full of fresh red fruit, rose blossom, with a slight creamy note to the palate from some time in oak barrels.
As Xaras, Fedellos do Couto
24.00 > 21.60
This is a new Cuveé from one of our absolute favourite producers, Fedellos do Couto. It's extremely pretty, with soft red fruit, very floral and as juicy as you like.
Lousas Vinas de Aldea, Envinate
27.00 > 24.30
From one of Spain’s most exciting young producers, this is very pretty indeed. There are beautiful red fruit aromatics with notes of white pepper. Vibrant and fresh, this is a perfect bottle of Mencia.
