The Vinhas Velhas is a wonderful expression of the Douro, with lots of savoury character, baked fruit, roasted almonds, and smoke. The finish is super-fresh, long and saline.
The grapes are left on skins for one night before being pressed into large chestnut barrels for 12 months maturation. That night on skins gives a little extra weight and depth to the palate, and a textural mouthfeel.
